, universities and hospitals around the country learn lad lot after the columbine and virginia tech shootings. that was the case here. they have drilled what they practiced, who to put where, how to secure people inside buildings. one of the things at the very center of this event is the most critical area. that is where the shooter was and the people around it. here is the police commissioner now describing those final moments. so the police commissioner is not available in order to give you that, but he was saying basically the specialized s.w.a.t. teams came into that area and they saw that both the mother and the shooter were dead and they realized the severity of the situation was over at this point. if you have any business here tonight, this might be worth your while to call and make sure everything was going as planned because this was a massive disruption today. the hospital does say they are officially open for business but it might not hurt. reporting live at johns hopkins, back to you on tv hill. >> complete coverage with jessica kartalija who has more on her exclusive interview w

. slow traffic as you work your way south of montrose road to the split. in virginia, northbound i-95 slowing out of dale city trying to head north of the prince william parkway. no accidents, just volume. 66 slows at business 234. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >>> a speeding suv collides with an ambulance overnight. stacy cohan joins us live with the details. >> reporter: it was a very scary moment for the folk in the ambulance apparently. this happened just around midnight. they were just dispatched heading westbound on marlboro pike. and apparently, investigators were able to watch it all unfold on a dash cam that took video from the ambulance. the suburban was heading the wrong with a just speeding down when it was approaching the ambulance head on. the driver of the ambulance managed to swerve to the left and the suv, the suburban lipped the side of the ambulance, literally shaving half of that ambulance off and then it went another 40 yards, crashed into a brick wall, crashed into a utility pole and flipped up on its roof. all three members in that suv, three men

there and in ohio and virginia say he may be connected to 19 attacks or i should say 18 attacks all together including five in which the victims died. there is no word tonight on what the new charges will include, but the suspect's defense lawyer says he expects at least one murder charge. investigators caught the man last month while he was reportedly trying to get on a plane to israel. capitol hill police opened fire on a man who they say pointed a gun at them early this morning. happened just blocks from the u.s. capitol building they tell us, 5:00 this morning. >> capitol police officers heard a lookout that was broadcast over the u.s. capitol police radio for a man with a gun. at second and fee street in the southwest a man brandishing the victim matched the exact lookout. the officers fired, fearing for their lives. >> shepard: police say the man was pointing a loaded gun at them when they opened fire. they dropped the suspect but no word on how seriously he is injured or why he pulled the gun in the first place. police say just as a precaution they locked down the u.s. capitol complex
